A vocational mission rooted in service and practical education.

Bakhita Training College, historically known as Bakhita Vocational Training Centre, is located in Bukoba, Kagera Region, Tanzania. The institution is associated with the Canossian Sisters and was established to create practical educational opportunities that prepare learners for employment, entrepreneurship and responsible service.

The college officially opened on 17 May 1993. Its early programmes focused on Secretarial Studies and Tailoring/Weaving, later incorporating computer studies and competence-based training as workplace needs evolved.

Historical Milestones

From mission to a lasting training institution

1981

The Canossian Sisters were invited to establish a community and educational mission in Bukoba.

17 May 1993

Bakhita Vocational Training Centre officially opened.

1994

Secretarial students began participating in national NABE examinations.

1995

The college obtained provisional registration under VETA.

1996

The institution was selected as a centre for conducting national examinations.

1997

Permanent VETA registration was obtained.

2002

Tailoring students began participating in VETA Trade Tests and the institution became a NABE Candidates Registration Centre.

Competence-Based Era

Training transitioned toward CBET/CBA approaches as Tanzania's vocational education system evolved.
